Join ʻAi Pono 2023 Challenge!

Over the last few weeks we have been doing our best to respond to the heartbreaking disaster on Maui and support our friends and networks on the ground as best we can.

We have taken a pause from our ʻAi Pono Kauaʻi Challenge registration efforts during this time, but we are circling back this week to remind you registration is open and we hope you will join us September 24th to September 30th for this week-long celebration of eating local food.

Please register for this year's challenge and show your support for this program, local food producers and for our collective work to transform our food system for a more resilient and abundant future.

Upon registration, you will be automatically entered into the draw for the 2023 ʻAi Pono Giveaway and have a chance to win some great local prizes! The more you participate the more entries you will receive (*details provided).

Our hope this year is to really engage with the broader Kauaʻi community and our growing partner list to foster a fun and educational challenge that inspires all of us to be more engaged in eating and shopping locally. With every dollar we spend, we vote for and fund the future. Together we can support Kauaʻi farmers, food and economy while helping to shape a healthier and more abundant future.

Time and time again we are reminded of the urgent need to transform our food supply, return to indigenous food ways and build our resilience to our rapidly changing climate and environmental conditions. Eating local, transforming what we eat and purchasing local IS (part of) the solution.

How To Participate?

  1. Register and receive instructions and a virtual copy of your Scavenger Hunt Card.

  2. Use the 2023 Scavenger Hunt Card as a guide and for more chances to enter. Post about your ʻAi Pono experience on social media using #aipono2023 and submit your scorecard for more entries into the prize drawing (details for entries provided after registration)!

  3. Set your own bar for the challenge. Challenge yourself to expand your personal efforts to source local foods by eating as much Kauaʻi grown, raised & harvested food as possible for the entire week, within your budget/ability.

  4. Continue to support Kauaʻi locally grown, harvested & raised foods in the future!

What will it take to create a just and sustainable food system?

Since its inception in 2014, the Hawaiian Agriculture and Policy Advocacy (HAPA) group has remained resolute in its commitment towards a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient food system in Hawaiʻi.

As a grass-roots organization, your donation, however big or small, will ensure that HAPA has the resources continue to keep you up-to-date on what is happing with our food-system in Hawaiʻi. We can’t do this without you.
